Counseling can help with many different challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, relationship struggles, parenting concerns, behavioral concerns, and major life transitions. You do not have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.
Many people seek counseling because they want to better understand themselves, improve relationships, develop healthier coping skills, navigate difficult transitions, or simply reconnect with who they are.
It is completely normal to feel uncertain or nervous about starting therapy. Many people are unsure what to expect or wonder if their concerns are “big enough” to seek help. Therapy is a space where you can talk openly, ask questions, and move at a pace that feels comfortable.
You do not have to have everything figured out before beginning. Taking the first step is often the hardest part.
Not at all. Many people begin therapy simply knowing that something does not feel right, that they feel overwhelmed, or that they want things to be different. Together, we can explore what is happening, identify goals, and create a plan that fits your needs.
I strive to offer timely access to care and typically have appointments available within a week. However, availability can vary depending on current scheduling needs and openings. Please reach out so we can discuss the next available appointment time that works best for you.
I offer both in-person and virtual counseling sessions to provide flexibility and accessibility based on your needs and preferences.
In-person sessions are located at:
1335 Phay Avenue, Suite A
Cañon City, CO 81212
To schedule an appointment, please visit the Contact Me page and submit an inquiry. I will follow up with available appointment times and next steps.
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, discuss what brings you to counseling, and identify your goals. We will review your concerns, gather relevant history, answer questions, and begin developing a treatment plan together.
You do not have to share everything immediately. Building trust takes time, and we will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Standard counseling sessions are typically 53 minutes. Extended sessions may be available for specific needs, including couples counseling or EMDR sessions.
Most clients begin with weekly sessions to establish consistency, build skills, and make progress toward their goals. As progress is made, sessions may transition to every other week or monthly depending on individual needs and treatment goals.
Every person’s therapy journey is different. The length of treatment depends on your goals, concerns, personal circumstances, and the progress you make along the way. Some people seek short-term support through a specific challenge, while others benefit from longer-term therapy for deeper growth and healing.
After several sessions, many clients begin to have a clearer understanding of their thoughts, emotions, and patterns. Therapy can help you develop new coping strategies, improve communication, build confidence, and feel more equipped to handle life’s challenges.
Progress looks different for everyone. Together, we will regularly discuss your goals, identify changes you are noticing, and adjust treatment as needed. Success in therapy may look like improved coping skills, stronger relationships, increased self-awareness, or feeling more connected to yourself and your life.
Emotions are a natural part of the therapy process. You are welcome to express what you are feeling in a safe and supportive environment. There is no need to apologize for tears, frustration, or difficult emotions. Your experiences are valid, and we will work through them together.
For scheduling questions or brief communication, you may contact the office. Therapy sessions are the primary place for processing concerns and doing therapeutic work. If you are experiencing an urgent mental health concern, please seek appropriate emergency support.
Children often communicate differently than adults. Therapy may include play, art, games, storytelling, and other developmentally appropriate activities that help children express emotions, build coping skills, and process experiences in a way that feels natural.
Parent and caregiver involvement is an important part of supporting a child’s growth and success.
Parents and caregivers are an important part of the therapeutic process. I provide updates, guidance, and support while also protecting the child’s personal therapeutic space. Parent sessions may be included to discuss progress, reinforce skills at home, and address family dynamics.
Depending on the child’s age, needs, and circumstances, children may participate in sessions independently. Parent involvement and consent requirements will always be discussed and handled appropriately.
Therapy works best when children have a safe space to share their thoughts and feelings. Confidentiality helps build trust, while parents remain an important part of the treatment process. Safety concerns, including risk of harm to self or others, are always addressed appropriately.
Each family situation is unique. I work with parents and caregivers to support the child’s best interests while following legal requirements regarding consent and involvement.
It is common for children to feel unsure about therapy at first. Building trust is an important part of the process. Therapy does not always begin with talking. Many children open up through activities, creativity, and relationship-building over time.
With appropriate written consent, I can collaborate with schools, physicians, or other providers when it supports the client’s treatment and overall well-being.
